World-record holder David Rudisha strolled into the final of the men's 800m by winning his semi-final in a time of 1:44:35 at the Olympic Stadium.
American sprinter Allyson Felix won her semi-final in 22.31 seconds, while British-born Nigerian triple jumper Tosin Oke reached Thursday's final after advancing from the qualifying stages.
Great Britain men's hockey team, featuring Harry Martin, reached the semi-final of the Olympics for the first time since 1988 after a 1-1 draw with Spain.
