ARSENAL 5-1 WOLVES
December 2, 2003
Today's FreezeFrame takes us back to a landmark moment in Arsenal history and another triumph for the Gunners' youth.
Cesc Fabregas had only made his first appearance in the red and white shirt six weeks earlier but it didn't take the 16-year-old long to hit the headlines.
With Arsenal crusing through to the Semi-Finals of the League Cup thanks to a dominant display at Highbury against Wolves, history was made in the 88th minute as Fabregas became the Club's youngest ever goalscorer - a record which still stands today.
It may have been a simple tap-in, but it mattered not to the young Spaniard, who eventually went on to make 303 appearances for the Club in the following eight years before securing a move to Barcelona last summer.
Michal Papadopulos (also pictured) featured as a late substitute in the game, a cameo which ultimately proved to be the striker's solitary appearance for the team. The Czech international can now be found in Russia's Premier League with FC Rostov, via spells with the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Heerenveen.
In this game, Arsenal turned on the style against their Premier League rivals. Arsène Wenger's side had scraped past Rotherham on penalties in the Third Round before seeing off West Brom.
Here, a Semi-Final spot was up for grabs. Jeremie Aliadiere scored the first of his two goals in the 24th minute, before the hosts rose through the gears in the second with a quickfire four-goal salvo.
Kanu scored with just over 20 minutes remaining before Aliadiere put the game beyond doubt two minutes later. Sylvain Wiltord added insult to injury soon after, before Alex Rae grabbed a consolation for a well-beaten Wolves side.
But there was still time for a fresh-faced Fabregas to make his mark late in the game, with the first of his 57 goals in an Arsenal shirt.
