Managerial sackings are being accelerated, according to Arsène Wenger.

Roberto Di Matteo became the fourth Premier League manager to lose his job this season when he was relieved of his duties this week, less than 18 months after taking over West Brom and despite leading the Baggies back to the top flight at the first attempt last term.

Following an excellent start to the season, the Italian was removed after a run of 13 defeats in 18 games. And Wenger is concerned about the alarming rate with which managers are getting the chop.

“It is approximately what happens every year but it looks this year that we are on an acceleration process and that is very bad,” said the Arsenal boss.

“You speak about Roberto Di Matteo and I feel he has did excellently at West Brom. I always feel sorry for any manager who loses his job.”
