A poor pitch put paid to Arsenal's hopes of playing their usual silky football and they dropped two vital points in the title race. Bendtner and Adebayor both went close and Van Persie offered late impetus but Wigan held on.

Adebayor shouldered extra responsibility in the winter of 2006 with Henry sidelined and he popped up with a valuable late winner at the JJB. Fabregas curved a perfect pass into Ade's path and he slotted it past Wigan keeper Kirkland.
