Arsenal cruised to victory with three goals inside an hour at Emirates Stadium. Van Persie set the hosts on their way with an 18th-minute penalty and added a second four minutes before the break. Denilson put the seal on a comfortable home win.

Emmanuel Adebayor was in full flow at the start of 2008 and Newcastle could not live with him. The Togolese broke the deadlock after 51 minutes and doubled his tally with another neat finish seven minutes from time before an own goal rounded things off.

Three days after beating Newcastle 3-0 in the League, Arsenal repeated the trick in the FA Cup. Adebayor opened the scoring, Flamini smashed in a spectacular effort from 25 yards and Fabregas added a third with ten minutes left.

It took a young Arsenal side 83 minutes to break down Newcastle but when the goals came they were both crackers. Traore's cross picked out Bendtner for a thumping header and then Denilson rifled one into the top corner from the edge of the box.
