on Vela's impact from the bench...
"When he came on straight away he made a difference because he is dangerous in his control and in his movement. His class gives you something special but I feel overall it was a good game. It would have been a great game certainly if it had stayed 11 against 11 but we were patient, we played with cohesion and intelligence. We didn’t make mistakes and in the end the natural outcome was there."

on whether he heard what Wilshere and Thomas said to each other...
"I don’t know. My eyes are not great and my ears are even worse! Because I couldn’t hear anything from the touchline. He [Thomas] has responded, he reacted, and in this case you have to control your nerves. Have you any excuses? I don’t know. But Jack looked upset as well, he said he has been kicked."

on Wilshere's performance...
"I feel he did very well. He looked always lively, dangerous in a difficult part of the game. When it was very tight in the first half he looked to find openings, he is not scared. He has something which is very difficult to give to players, no matter how big the game is he takes the ball and takes people on. He still sometimes has a little lack of experience in his decision-making but you see there is something special there."

on whether he can play centrally in the long-term...
"I believe in the future he will be a central player but at the moment in his education it is good that he plays wide right, wide left, central, wherever we need him."

on Vela playing in the Premier League this weekend...
"He needs more time, he is not ready. He was not even ready to start tonight but he needs to work. We have Van Persie, Bendtner, Eduardo and Vela as strikers, because we count Walcott more as a midfielder, as a right-winger. Of course he is in my plans, he can play as a winger as well. He can play wide left, wide right, he can play central, he gives you plenty of options."

on Szczesny's performance in goal...

"I liked his performance. He has a presence, he has a charisma, he has a calmness, and you see straight away there is quality there. He broke both his arms last year. He was a great, great prospect and he broke both arms in the gym, he fell down and the bar fell on him and he broke his two arms."

on why Jerome Thomas did not make it at Arsenal...
"Well he was young. Thomas was a little bit impulsive, very talented, sometimes nervy and impatient as well, because he had a lot of talent. I am happy that he is now coming to the top level because I always thought he had something special in his running with the ball, with his dribbling. On his day he was always an exceptional player. He lacked a little bit of confidence but he seems to have found that now. He was dangerous even at the start of the game, he is a good player."
