Catania 3-2 AS Roma
Sunday December 21, 2008
Francesco Totti could be out for more than a month after damaging a thigh muscle during Roma's 3-2 defeat at Catania on Sunday. On the same day that Arsenal lost their skipper Cesc Fabregas to injury, the Gunners' next Champions League opponents also saw their captain limp off. Totti lasted just 31 minutes and was holding his thigh when he left the pitch shortly after trying a back-heeled pass to Julio Baptista. Totti, who has five goals in 10 league appearances this season, is expected to be fit for the two-legged tie with Arsenal.
Totti's injury compounded a miserable day for Roma as their five-game winning streak came to an abrupt end. Catania were three up by the 54th minute after Davide Baiocco's opener and a brace from Japanese forward Takayuki Morimoto. Two goals inside five minutes from Mirko Vucinic and Jeremy Menez gave the Giallorossi hope with 13 minutes left, but Catania held on to leave Roma in 11th place, 19 points adrift of leaders Inter Milan.
