Nacer Barazite... Dutchman misses last-gasp penalty for the Rams

Loan Watch: Barazite misses last-gasp penalty

Eight Arsenal players are currently away on loan, four of whom, Armand Traore, James Dunne, Nacer Barazite and Kerrea Gilbert remain on British soil. Eighteen-year-old left-back Traore is the only loanee cutting his teeth in the Premier League while Barazite and Gilbert are further down the English system, with Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Leicester City respectively.

Overseas, the Gunners have players in Italy, Spain and Holland. Philippe Senderos, who has made 115 appearances for the Gunners, will spend the season with Serie A giants AC Milan. Fellow centre-half Håvard Nordtveit has joined Spanish Segunda Division outfit UD Salamanca along with Pedro Botelho while Vincent van den Berg is out on his second loan spell in as many years, this time with FC Zwolle of the Eerste Divisie in Holland.

Only one Gunner was on show during a very quiet weekend for our loanees…

Player Profile - Nacer BaraziteDerby County

Nacer Barazite
Derby 1-1 Nottingham, Sunday, November 2.

Nacer Barazite saw his last-minute penalty saved in an unforgettable East Midlands derby. After passing a late fitness test, the Dutchman was introduced at half time with the teams locked at 0-0. Forest broke the deadlock 10 minutes after the restart when Emanuel Villa deflected Lewis McGugan’s fierce effort beyond Rams keeper Stephen Bywater. However, Villa made amends just after the hour mark when he latched onto a Barazite flick-on to draw Paul Jewell’s men level. McGugan saw red before the game burst into life in the closing stages. Luke Chambers was adjudged to have handled inside the area but Barazite saw his spot-kick saved by childhood Derby fan Lee Camp. Seconds later referee Stuart Attwell ruled out a Miles Addison header to deny Derby the three points.

Player Profile - Armand TraorePortsmouth

Armand Traore
Portsmouth 1-2 Wigan Athletic, Saturday, November 1.

Armand Traore was withdrawn at half time against Wigan as Tony Adams’ first home game in charge ended in defeat. The 19-year-old made way for Niko Kranjcar at the interval and it was the Croatian who finally drew Pompey level eight minutes from time. Amr Zaki had handed Wigan the lead from the spot on the stroke of half time but Kranjcar’s late strike looked to have earned Adams’ men a point. However, in stoppage time Emile Heskey hit his 100th Premier League goal to secure the win for the Latics.

Player Profile - Pedro BotelhoUD Salamanca

Pedro Botelho
Celta Vigo 2-0 Salamanca, Sunday, November 2.

Pedro Botelho played the whole second half as league-leaders Salamanca went down 2-0 at Celta Vigo. Sergio Pelegrin’s own goal after 16 minutes handed Celta the lead and it remained that way until second-half stoppage time. Roberto Lago had been given his marching orders for the hosts nine minutes before time but it was they who scored the game’s second goal through Roberto Trashorras in the final minute.
