Nasri joins long list of League debut scorers

Samir Nasri’s match-winning performance against West Bromwich Albion on the opening day of the season put the Frenchman on an esteemed list of Arsenal players, past and present. The list, of course, is those to have scored on their League debut. Samir is the 83rd player to do so.

The summer acquisition from Olympique Marseilles took less than four minutes to prod home in front of a packed Emirates Stadium, joining Emmanuel Adebayor and Freddie Ljungberg as debut-scorers in the Arsène Wenger era. He is the 22nd Gunner to achieve the feat for the Club in post-war Britain.

The list below are scorers when a league match was their major competition debut. Debut scorers in other competitions include Raphael Meade (Europe), Ian Wright and Danny Karbassiyoon (League Cup) and Gilberto (Charity Shield).

Although it wasn't his first game for the Club, Ian Wright scored a hattrick on his first league start for Arsenal. His three debut goals helped Arsenal beat Southampton 4-0 at The Dell on September 28, 1991.
