Club shortlisted for three awards

Sports Business Awards

We are excited to announce that the club have been shortlisted in three categories at the 2017 Sports Business Awards - for Best Fan Engagement Programme, Best Sports Charity, Community & CSR and Best Sports Club/Sports Event Hospitality.

Best Fan Engagement Programme – Junior Gunners Membership

Our Junior Gunners membership scheme was founded in 1984 and today has over 36,000 young members aged 0-16.  To help further our commitment to these young fans, we launched the Junior Gunners app in 2016, becoming the first Premier League club to launch a fully interactive children’s app.  The app has proved extremely popular and really helped to drive further engagement with our young supporters globally.

In addition to the popular 'Pocket Player' game that features animated avatars of first-team and Ladies players; it contains a range of fun and educational games. Young fans can create their own Arsenal avatar, manage their very own six-a-aside team in ‘Squad Boss’ and enter a range of competitions to win club prizes.

Best Sports Charity, Community & CSR – The Arsenal Foundation’s global charity partnership with Save the Children

Since the club’s early beginnings, it has responded to the need of its local community.  The global charity partnership between The Arsenal Foundation and Save the Children combines the club’s reach, experience and advocacy in using football to engage young people with Save the Children’s humanitarian expertise.  This is something which has evolved as the partnership has grown, reaching and inspiring children across the globe.

The turning point in the partnership came in 2016, when The Arsenal Foundation and Save the Children developed a football programme in Iraq in two camps for internally displaced people (IDP) who had been forced to flee their homes because of armed conflict. Together, we built two football pitches which were linked to Save the Children’s Child Friendly Spaces. The pitches provide children with a safe space to play - giving them a chance to escape their tragic circumstances and experience the normality of childhood.

Arsenal Ladies Captain, Alex Scott, flew to Iraq in March 2016 to meet the children and to understand the impact of our football programme. Read more here.
