Internationals: Alexis, Elneny, Ospina

Alexis celebrates with Chile

The March internationals came to a conclusion on Tuesday, with five of our first-team players in action.

Scroll down to see how they performed:

Alexis was instrumental in Chile’s win over Venezuela in Santiago. The forward gave La Roja the lead with an exquisite free-kick, played an important role in the Copa America holders’ second and then set up the third to secure a crucial victory. Alexis also missed a second-half penalty. The result leaves Chile in an automatic qualification place for next summer’s World Cup, with four fixtures still to play.

Alexis wasn’t the only first-team player to score for his country on Tuesday - Mohamed Elneny was on target as Egypt comprehensively beat Togo 3-0 in a friendly. Our midfielder rounded off the scoring just after the hour, clinically sweeping home a shot from the edge of the area.

It was a good night for David Ospina too, whose Colombia side strengthened their chances of reaching Russia next year with a 2-0 win in Ecuador. James Rodriguez and Juan Cuadrado scored the goals.

Meanwhile, Laurent Koscielny played the entirety of France’s friendly defeat against Spain, with Olivier Giroud coming on as a 65th-minute substitute. Nacho Monreal didn’t feature for the visitors, who won thanks to goals from David Silva and Gerard Deulofeu.

And finally, Ainsley Maitland-Niles started as England Under-20s lifted the Four Nations Tournament after beating Senegal.
