Arsenal in the Community

A special tournament was held at the Arsenal Community Hub this week to mark the Level Playing Fields Weeks of Action. The inclusive football tournament for adults with Learning Disabilities brought together eight different teams from around the country.

The Arsenal in the Community Learning Disabilities group has been running in partnership with the Elfrida Society for five and a half years. Elfrida Society is a leading charity based in Islington for adults with learning difficulties which has also been supported by The Arsenal Foundation.

Arsenal in the Community run the sessions with the main aim to create fun and engaging opportunities for local adults with Learning Disabilities, as well as helping with social interaction and physical health. Participants are also assisted with searching for educational and employment opportunities if they are interested.

The unique football tournament called ‘The Hub Cup’ included Learning Disability teams from Arsenal in the Community, Norwich City Community Trust, Sutton United Community, Leicester City Foundation, Brighton and Hove Albion in the Community and QPR in the Community.

Arsenal in the Community’s disability officer Luke Howard said: "This was a brilliant opportunity to bring together people from around the country who have a passion for football. We are very proud of the work we do throughout the year, and these opportunities to showcase it are always fantastic."

Sutton United community officer Ryan Cheeseman said: "It was a great day for the players and everyone involved. You could tell everyone enjoyed it and played with a smile on their face.
