Ramsey - How fatherhood has changed me

Like most first-time parents, Aaron Ramsey has seen his life change completely since the birth of his son 14 months ago.

It can be tough for anyone to adapt to the lack of sleep and the early-morning starts, particularly so if you are a professional athlete known for their high-energy approach.

But Ramsey is loving every minute of it, and stressed the importance of making sure he gets the balance right between being a father and a footballer.

“It’s an amazing feeling to become a dad and see the little stages he goes through,” he told Arsenal Player. “I see his little characteristics and watching him develop is really nice. On the other hand, it is tough!

“Everything revolves around him now. I have to stick to a routine, go to bed earlier, wake up for the early-morning starts and that’s been the biggest change.

“We’ve got to plan days with him being the first thing we think about. It changes you and you realise there’s more to life than football.

“It is tough to get that balance right because you obviously need to keep your energy for the weekend and put in a performance for your team, but you also don’t want to miss out on things that you get to do with your son.

“It is about getting that balance right, but doing certain things at the right time and not missing out on too many things is key.”
