Charity matchday raises record total

Arsenal Foundation thank you

Thanks to the generosity of supporters, players, ballboys and staff, our match dedicated to the Arsenal Foundation against Stoke City on December 10 raised more than £250k to fund projects which use the Arsenal name to support young people.

This is the tenth year that the manager and players have come together to donate a day’s wages - which is fast becoming a Gunners’ tradition - to continue our work with young people, giving them a chance to thrive through a variety of education, sport and arts projects in the UK and overseas.

This year also saw record sales of the Arsenal Christmas jumper in aid of Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day initiative. The whole squad donned the festive knit to support the initiative which saw 20 per cent of the full retail price of each Christmas jumper purchased donated to Save the Children.

Beneficiaries of 2016’s charity matchday include Arsenal Foundation partner Willow, who provide special days for seriously ill young people, Nordoff Robbins, the largest independent music therapy charity in the UK, and Teenage Cancer Trust, who create world-class cancer services for young people in the UK.

Arsenal manager and Arsenal Foundation ambassador Arsène Wenger said: “We are all proud to continue this tradition of giving over the festive period and we are all aware of how we are able to influence young people’s lives in a positive way.

“It can be incredibly powerful for beneficiaries to know that Arsenal is supporting them and it is a privilege for us to be a part of that.”

The Arsenal Legends game against Milan Glorie in September also raised £1m, which will be used to create pitches with the charity in Jordan and Somalia.

Through The Gunners Fund, the Arsenal Foundation will make more grants of up to £2,500 totalling £75,000 each season to support a range of local projects.
