'I'm the happiest person in the world'

It has been quite a weekend for Theo Walcott, who scored his ninth goal of the season just days after the birth of his second son.

The England international played a key role in the victory against Bournemouth, and spoke to the media after the game about a “perfect weekend”.

This is what he had to say:

on a fantastic week…
On a personal note, obviously me and Mel had a baby on Friday, little baby Arlo. She did fantastically well, it’s been a long journey. So yeah, it’s just nice to be back. It’s happened now and I can just concentrate on the football. It was a good team performance today. Bournemouth are a very solid team, they play very good football and we did find it difficult at times. We started to click again, even if it was in patchy stages, it’s started to happen again.

on the baby…
It was on Friday - it was long! We were at home, and it started at about half one in the morning and it was very special. It’s all about the family and it was fantastic for me and all of our family. I’m probably the happiest person in the world. Now with the team back to winning ways, it’s a perfect weekend.

ADVERT

on scoring a header…
You can grab a few goals from the back stick and Nacho did well. I think he just tried to go for the shot to be honest, but I was just there at the right time and luckily for me, it went in. But then again, I’m more delighted for the guys getting the three points because we’ve kept this run going. People have said we’ve been sort of edging off slightly, but in years gone by we’d have lost a lot of games. We’re still there, undefeated since the beginning of the season and, for me, it’s all positive in the dressing room at this moment in time.
