‘Wenger has built his own philosophy’

As one of the game's most decorated managers, Arsène Wenger is as a role model for coaches all over the world.

But his influence stretches further than just his counterparts, and he has earned plenty of plaudits from players too, especially in his native France.

One of those admirers is Thiago Motta who, after eight years of possession-based attacking football at Barcelona, has huge respect for everything Wenger has achieved during his time in north London.

“Creating such a style, an identity, takes a lot of time,” Motta said. “Barcelona and Arsenal have been working for the past 20 years in order to build a philosophy. We hope to create our own here in Paris, even if we know that it's only possible through work and time.

“[Wednesday's match] is one of those games that you love to play as a professional footballer,” he added. “You practise every day and work hard in order to play these clashes. The whole group is very enthusiastic, we will play a strong side in a beautiful stadium.

“We'll try to play our football, stick to our style of play. We know that we need to improve, we work for that every day.

"More importantly, we want to leave the Emirates with the feeling of having produced some great football and we hope for a win. It'll be an interesting game to watch as first spot is at stake, which matters a lot.”
