Arsenal Community Inclusion Day

Arsenal in the Community - 30 years

Arsenal in the Community hosted a unique event for people with disability.

The aim of the event was to encourage more people with restricted mobility to come and enjoy an array of activities with Arsenal in the Community.

Act One Arts Base is a Dance School for people with restricted mobility. They kicked off the event with a dance and relaxation session using music, movement and props.

The second section of the day welcomed Bag Books, a charity that use multi-sensory books to encourage stimulation and to retain concentration of the reader. The participants all enjoyed football, Halloween and bonfire night stories.

After lunch, the guests had the opportunity to experience Pedal Power, an Islington based cycling club that offers free cycling sessions on specially adapted bicycles. Pedal Power have been supported by The Arsenal Foundation and they now run sessions every Thursday around Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal in the Community also offered a specially adapted Yoga session which focussed on calming the participants with relaxing music, aromas and stimulating lighting. The participants were supported by carers to help them move their arms, legs and bodies in ways that they do not usually move.

The final session of the day was adapted sport, where all participants had the opportunity to play Boccia, Polybat and New Age Kurling. These sports are specifically adapted to allow people with restricted mobility to play them.

Arsenal in the Community run a number of different sport sessions for people with disabilities, and they are set to host another inclusion day in the near future.
