'It was awesome to score my first goals'

Jodie Taylor

Arsenal Ladies picked up a 2-0 win over Doncaster Belles in their final home game of the season - thanks in no small part to Jodie Taylor.

The England international has struggled with injuries since arriving at the club, but marked her long-overdue debut with two strikes to carry the Gunners to victory on Sunday.

Here's what she had to say to Arsenal.com after the final whistle:

on how it felt to get her first goals in Arsenal colours…
It felt awesome. It’s been a difficult year with injury. That was my first time stepping on the field this year in a competitive fixture so I am just thrilled to be back on the pitch and be healthy, but also to score and help us to win - that’s pretty cool too.

on the emotion of scoring so soon after such a long time out…
It was good, it was a big relief to just put one in the back of the net again. It was on a plate for me and it was probably harder to miss! But no, it feels so nice to be back out there with the girls and just to get a good win for the club.

on whether it’s frustrating for her to return to fitness in the final home game…
Yes, in a way. I wish it was the start of the season now! But it is what it is, at least I can get a few games in now before the end of the year and I’m sure January will come around quick enough.

on whether she is excited for the Spring Series…
Yes, of course. I just want games! So it’ll be good at least to get some competitive fixtures in early next year before the league changes over, and of course, before the Euros as well.
