Williamson - We're really flying

Leah Williamson

Leah Williamson was delighted to mark her return to the Arsenal Ladies team with victory over Doncaster Belles on Thursday.

The 19-year-old had been sidelined with a long-term injury, but made her comeback at the Keepmoat Stadium in stunning fashion.

“I’m really pleased to be back but it’s all about the team,” she said. “I know everybody says that and I think I played ok but it was really about a good team performance.

"We will fight to the end, there is something to play for and we won’t stop. We had a harsh team talk because we knew we needed to shape up here."

“We will fight to the end, there is something to play for and we won’t stop. We had a harsh team talk because we knew we needed to shape up here. We feel like we’re flying now and we want to continue that."

Williamson reserved special praise for Kelly Smith and Natalia, both of whom came off the bench and added to the scoreline.

“They calm things down because we haven’t always been controlling games this season, but we changed that and those two really helped that,” she said.

“When you see goals like Kelly scored here, you wonder how we don’t score more and win more games - it was incredible.”
