Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny started as France secured their place in the final of Euro 2016 with a 2-0 win over Germany. The Arsenal striker had the first chance to break the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes, but Benedikt Howedes recovered brilliantly to block his low strike. The tournament hosts did not need to wait much longer to take the lead, though, as Antoine Griezmann kept his nerve to convert from the spot after Bastian Schweinsteiger had handled the ball in the box. Koscielny then headed Griezmann’s corner just over Manuel Neuer’s crossbar, before the Atletico Madrid striker doubled France’s advantage, prodding home from close range to set up Sunday’s final against Portugal.
