Aaron Ramsey played the full 90 minutes of Wales’ 1-0 win against Northern Ireland in Paris. The Arsenal midfielder thought he had given Wales an early lead when he converted Sam Vokes’ header at the far post, but he was denied by the offside flag. Northern Ireland soon threatened back, and Wayne Hennessey had to react well to tip Jamie Ward’s thunderous strike over the crossbar before the break.

Wales came out of half-time the stronger side and nearly broke the deadlock when Vokes connected with Ramsey’s inch-perfect cross, but the striker headed off target from close range. It wouldn’t take much longer for Chris Coleman’s side to take the lead, though, when Gareth McAuley diverted Gareth Bale’s cross past his own goalkeeper with 15 minutes remaining. Northern Ireland charged forward in search of a late equaliser, but Wales held on to secure their place in the quarter-finals.
