Foundation works with Almeida Theatre

Almedia Theatre 'Boy'

The Arsenal Foundation is working with local theatre the Almeida on a new community programme for young people in Islington.

Called ‘Play On’, the initiative is aimed at individuals who haven’t previously been involved in theatre.

Forty participants will work with four professional playwrights to develop short plays and monologues based on their own life experiences, and the themes raised in the Almeida’s new play ‘Boy’.

The group will then perform their work at the Almeida Theatre at the end of the six-week project.

Participants will be drawn from Arsenal in the Community’s sport, education and social programmes in the borough, with the programme funded by the Arsenal Foundation.

Alan Sefton, Head of Arsenal in the Community, said: ‘We’re delighted that Arsenal in the Community has partnered with the Almeida Theatre on the Play On project. We have been working with young people in Islington for over 30 years to engage them in sport and education, and this is an exciting new chapter in our work. Along with the Almeida, we will give the individuals involved the chance to get to know the theatre and to speak about things that mean a lot to them. That will be very positive.’
