‘We need the same passion and drive’

Arsène Wenger says his team must replicate the “passion and drive” they showed in Barcelona against Everton on Saturday.

Arsenal posed problems for Luis Enrique’s side in their 3-1 defeat at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night, producing 20 shots at goal - more than they managed in any other Champions League game this season.

The Everton game kicks off just 63 hours after the Barcelona match finished, but Wenger is confident his team can extend their good recent record at Goodison Park, where they have lost just once in eight Premier League visits.

"Overall our performance was positive. We just want to continue playing with the same passion and drive until the end of the season"

“I believe we go into this game taking the positives from our performance against Barcelona and being focused,” the manager said. “The fact [is] we had a very dynamic, mobile, fluent performance with 20 shots on goal, 12 on target at Barcelona.

“Overall our performance was positive. We just want to continue playing with the same passion and drive until the end of the season.

“[Everton is] a tough place because they have a big and strong squad, and a team of huge potential as well. They always have a good crowd. We expect a strong opponent, but let's focus on our performance and go into the game with the same desire.”

“I believe the team are up for it and the team will give everything to continue that record. We know the huge importance this game has for us.

“The advantage we have is that we do not have to over-think what we have to do. We know this game is of big significance for us, so we have to go out and perform.”
