Wenger on title race, Spurs, Ospina

Read extra quotes from the boss’ press conference ahead of Saturday’s north London derby at White Hart Lane:

on whether he sees not winning the league as a failure…
Honestly, at the moment that doesn’t go through my mind. If you say that to me now then yes, because we want to win it. It will go through the minds of six, seven or eight other managers as well.

on t fans seeing it as their season…
It’s normal that you think like that. If you would interview the fans everywhere then they would tell you exactly the same in the other six or seven teams.

on if it will be worse if Spurs win title…
I never understood that. You want to do well because you want to win for yourself and you want to feel that you have given absolutely everything to win. After that, you do not choose who else wins it. Sport is about the guys that deserve it, win it. It’s not the identity that is important. What is important is that you give absolutely your best to be on top of everybody else.

ADVERT

on whether football is educating players about criminal offences…
Football is doing a lot but when you are in these types of positions you always have the feeling that you don’t do enough. But we live as well in a society which knows the individual responsibility of people. Once you are an adult you have to stand up for what you do. It is not always football that is responsible for the individual initiatives of people.

on whether football can do more…
Yes, because this is an endless work and you can always do more on that front. Our society to acknowledge that the individual person is responsible for what he does in that society.

on David Ospina…
I have complete confidence in David and I’m not worried at all on that front.

on if Petr Cech is a big loss…
Yes. On the other hand if you look at the win rate of Ospina it is very good as well. I’m not worried at all.
