Wenger - Alexis is fighting to improve

Arsene Wenger says Alexis is “fighting” to get back to his best form.

The Chile international has scored once and claimed one assist since returning to the Arsenal team in late January after a hamstring injury.

"You don’t want him to lose confidence and he wants to fight"

But Wenger believes Alexis will soon be at the peak of his powers again, just in time for the Premier League run-in.

“He is just coming back from injury,” the manager said. “I believe that he is fighting to come back to his best.

“His second half was quite positive and encouraging at Manchester United.

Wenger also believes that Gabriel’s improving command of the language would help over the coming months.

“I would prefer him to have better English because in the fraction of a second sometimes someone can help you and communicate better,” he said.

“He has Nacho Monreal, who plays next to him who can speak Spanish. I believe that he is working very hard on his English and is improving quite quickly and well.”
