Steve Gatting has hailed Danny Welbeck’s performance in Arsenal Under-21s' victory
against Brighton on Friday.

The England international made his return to football after 10 months on the sidelines following knee surgery.

Welbeck played 60 minutes of the 4-1 win and Gatting says playing alongside him was a great experience for his young Gunners.

“Danny has been great for us,” he told Arsenal Player. “We are pleased he got through his 60 minutes and had an effect and again it is a senior player who has come down to us and played a part.

“All the senior players that have come down like Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky have been fantastic. They have a lot of experience and we are better for it.

"First half I thought we were excellent and we played very well. Second half was very disappointing in the way we played. I thought we were a little bit loose and there were too many stray passes.

“You look at your forwards to score goals and Stephy Mavididi has scored in the last two games. At the moment, Stephy and Donyell Malen are competing for the number nine shirt. It is a good competition.”
