Alex Scott says it is important for Arsenal Ladies to be tested during pre-season so they can hit the ground running in March.
The Gunners are preparing for their opening game of the Women’s Super League against Reading by facing Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich on their tour of Spain.
Scott is a key member of Pedro Martinez Losa’s squad, having signed a new contract in August, and the England defender cannot wait to begin her 10th season with Arsenal.

“We want to go out there to win but we’re looking at the bigger picture as well,” she told the Arsenal Weekly podcast. “We want to make sure we all gel cohesively off the field as well as on it, and work on things in pre-season individually and as a group.
“The main thing is that, when we come back in a week’s time, we’ll all be in a better place. We’re just all looking forward to playing Reading at home. We have had a long off-season through the winter so we can’t wait for it to start again.
“It’s going to be the best one yet because every season the league is getting better. The teams are improving, the investment in the teams is growing, so I think it’s going to be really competitive but hopefully we can keep our position at the top.
“They’re the fixtures you look at and want to be playing in. When you play for Arsenal Ladies you expect those kinds of challenges, so they’re the games we relish as a group. This is the quality that you want in pre-season because it’s really going to test you. We want to make sure that Arsenal Ladies are fighting in the Champions League. It’s going to be a great pre-season trip and will be a good indication of where we are.”
