Everyone at Arsenal Football Club was saddened to hear of the death of John Roberts, aged 69.

A Wales international, John worked as a railway fireman before taking up football and joined Arsenal from Northampton Town in April 1969. He spent more than three years in north London, helping the club to win a league and FA Cup double in 1971.

John featured 18 times in this historic 1970/71 campaign and made 81 appearances in total before leaving to join Birmingham City in 1972.

John also represented Wrexham and Hull City before retiring at the start of the 1980s.

The thoughts of everyone at Arsenal are with John's family and friends.
