‘Fara one of best in England’s history’

Pedro Martinez Losa says Fara Williams is “one of the best players” in England’s history.

The 31-year-old midfielder joined Arsenal from Liverpool on Tuesday to become the Gunners’ third signing of the transfer window, after Danielle van de Donk and Katie McCabe.

Williams is England’s most-capped player of all time, featuring 148 times for her country and helping the Lionesses finish third in the 2015 World Cup, and Losa is delighted with his side’s latest addition.

"She fits very well into our style and good players always find it easy to adapt and play good football"

“We are very happy,” he told Arsenal Player. “We are signing one of the best players in England's history. She has quality and for us it is a big moment as a club.

“She will bring experience, good football, character and a big personality. She will give us offensive guidance and manage games and set plays. She is mainly a big character and give us more personality. She will manage game situations at the top level as well.

“She has been captain of England and played at a high level of competition for both club and country. For us it is a big moment. She fits very well into our style and good players always find it easy to adapt and play good football.

“[Her working with the younger players] will also help massively. We were talking about those young players at the start of the season, saying they need that guidance and motivation but they also need that mental strength in difficult moments. We have been improving but we need strong characters on the pitch and Fara is going to help us and help them.”
