Flamini - I cherish Newcastle wondergoal

Mathieu Flamini says his long-range strike against Newcastle United in 2008 is one of his favourite goals of his career.

The French midfielder grabbed the headlines in the 3-0 victory at Emirates Stadium when he collected the ball 30 yards out, and arrowed a shot into the top corner.

The Magpies return to north London on Saturday, and Flamini says the game will bring back some great memories.

“Newcastle haven’t started well but we know they have very good quality in their team and they have the capacity to play well,” he told Arsenal Player.

“It will be a difficult game, we know that, but we also have to play our football. We play at home in front of our fans and we will do everything we can to win. It’s vital and important for us.

“[The 2008 goal] is one of the top three definitely,” he continued. “I don’t score very much and it is a great memory. It’s also one of the seasons where I did well, so of course it’s great and I’m happy to play them again.”
