Gatting - Sheaf has great character

 By Lloyd Webb

Steve Gatting has praised Ben Sheaf's character - both on and off the pitch.

The midfielder has been in fine form this season and was on target for Arsenal Under-18s during their 4-1 win against West Brom in the FA Youth Cup.

Gatting thinks Sheaf’s versatility makes him a vital member of the squad, but says he was not the only teenager to impress on Friday.

"We have a lot of lads with a lot of potential"

“Ben is a lovely player to manage,” Gatting told Arsenal Player. “He has great character, he can use either foot and tonight played right back and has played central midfield, right midfield. Wherever he plays he does his best and again he scored and he has that quality around the box.

“There were a lot of good performance. Generally, I don’t think a player had a bad game and it was a real team performance . I thought it was a real disciplined performance. I thought first half we played some attacking, fast football and it caused problems.

"We took the game to them. Second half, against the wind, we thought we would make it a little harder to play against us. We played behind them a lot more, got the second balls and overall I thought it was a very good performance.

“We have a lot of lads with a lot of potential and most of them play in the under-19s and under-21s. We have to be a little careful of overplaying them but we have got a group of lads that have a lot of quality.”
