'It was a good season for us'

Leah Williamson

Leah Williamson spoke to the media after Arsenal Ladies’ Continental Cup final win against Notts County on Sunday. You can read a full transcript of her interview below:

on being champion…
It is good after last year’s defeat. We definitely wanted to get the win in and it feels good, it is really good.

on being unbeaten…
It is an unbelievable record. If you look at the teams we had to face, most of them are WSL 1 basically. It was a good season for us, this is our competition and we needed a trophy otherwise that would have been the first year in 10 we hadn’t won. The girls were fantastic.

on Pedro’s first trophy…
It fills him with confidence and gives him a taste of what the team can do together. We really showed it today that we are ready to compete for next season but if we had gone without a trophy this year it would not have been right. It wouldn’t have been the Arsenal way.

on Jordan Nobbs.
She was unbelievable. When you have players like that in your team, you do all have expectations and when you deliver it is really, really special. I think when you look at that second goal today that is something not many players in this league can do against a top, top goalkeeper like Carly Telford. It is important to have a battle, we just need to keep her fit now.

on learning from Nobbs…
Definitely. She is the sort of player you want to play against so you develop your own game as well. She is just a joy to watch for a fan, for a player she has a big future and if I can get any games next to her it is going to be a good future for me too.

on how to push on from the win…
I think today I have had to learn the hard way that is not always sweet because I didn’t have the best games for a player of my ability that I know I can have. Sometimes you have to learn how to win and ride the storm and despite it not being my best performance and hopefully in future performances I can make bit more a difference and really push on.
