Losa – I’m proud of how we play

 By Lloyd Webb

Pedro Martinez Losa says he is “very proud” how well Arsenal Ladies have adapted to his style of play.

The Spanish manager is nearing the end of his first full season in charge of the Gunners, having guided them to a third-placed finish in the Women’s Super League with his fast, attacking brand of football.

Losa has also encouraged his side to build from the back and is impressed with how his defensive-minded players have embraced his philosophy ahead of Sunday’s Continental Cup semi-final against Birmingham City.

“Casey Stoney and Jemma Rose are two players who have been very consistent, especially in the final part of this season,” he told Arsenal.com. "Jade Bailey and Dominique Janssen have been very positive. Chioma Ubogagu is scoring goals also in important games.

"We are very impressed and very positive for the future"

“They have changed their style of play, they play from the back now. We have put them in a situation where they have to make decisions with the ball. They probably are not used to that and I’m very proud."

The Continental Cup has allowed Losa to give Arsenal’s younger players first-team experience, and Losa admits he is surprised with how well they have coped with the step up.

"Players like Carla Humphrey, Leah Williamson and Chloe Kelly have not had too many opportunities but they work hard and make our level higher every training session.

“We wish we could give them more opportunities and maybe more games but we are very impressed and very positive for the future.”
