Hertfordshire FA Respect Festival

Aspiring Lionesses from across Hertfordshire came together at Meadow Park on Sunday to take part in the Respect Festival hosted by the Hertfordshire FA and Arsenal Ladies.

More than 75 girls from Bedwell Rangers, Garston Ladies, Herts Girls, Stevenage Borough Girls and St Albans City Girls didn’t let the rain dampen their spirits as the teams got stuck into a six-a-side Respect Festival prior to the Gunners WSL clash with Liverpool Ladies.

Following the festival, the girls were provided with free tickets to watch a host of Women’s World Cup stars courtesy of Arsenal Ladies, including England Lionesses Alex Scott, Casey Stoney and Fara Williams.

As an added bonus, a number of players from Stevenage-based club Bedwell Rangers Girls, were invited to act as mascots and flag bearers for the game, which was broadcast live on BT sport.

The Respect Festival aimed to teach the players, parents and clubs about how vital it is that matches are played in a fun, positive and safe environment. Both pitches at the festival included a respect barrier for spectators to stand behind and encourage the teams.

Also involved in the festival was an inflatable Respect pitch for the teams to play on, and in addition all girls participating received a Respect water bottle to take with them for the upcoming 2015/16 season.
