Emirates Cup 2015 line up confirmed

Olympique Lyonnais, Villarreal and VfL Wolfsburg will join Arsenal for the Emirates Cup 2015 on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26.

It will be the eighth staging of the tournament, which has been a regular part of the club’s pre-season schedule since the move to Emirates Stadium.

As in previous years, supporters will enjoy two matches on both Saturday and Sunday, with one ticket giving access to both matches on a particular day.

Nicklas Bendtner is set to return to Emirates Stadium with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, who will take on Santi Cazorla’s former club Villarreal in the opening match of the tournament at 2pm on Saturday, July 25. Arsenal will then host Lyon at 4.20pm.

Teams will be awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw. The competition also rewards attacking play, with teams earning a point for each goal they score. In addition, shots on target will be taken into account and will be used to decide the tournament winners if teams are level on points and goal difference, with the winning team being presented with the Emirates Cup trophy after the final match on Sunday.

Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis said: “We are delighted to be able to confirm three leading European club teams for this year’s Emirates Cup. Lyon, Villarreal and Wolfsburg have some fantastic players and will all contribute to an entertaining weekend of football for our supporters.

"Lyon and Wolfsburg will also provide a good competitive challenge for our players as they prepare for the new season. Emirates have sponsored this tournament since 2007 and we thank them again for their long-standing commitment to Arsenal Football Club, and their support in helping to make this a great weekend of football each year.”

Emirates divisional senior vice president, corporate communications, marketing and brand Boutros Boutros added: “The Emirates Cup is always an exciting chapter in our partnership with Arsenal Football Club and we are all looking forward to the tournament returning again in July. With Lyon returning for a second time and two other top sides in Wolfsburg and Villarreal, Emirates are delighted to support another great pre-season competition this year.”
