Rose - We underestimated Bristol

Jemma Rose says Arsenal Ladies were guilty of underestimating Bristol Academy in their 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Chioma Ubogagu swept the Gunners into an early lead after latching onto Alex Scott’s cross but Nikki Watts equalised with 20 minutes remaining to salvage a point for the Women’s Super League’s bottom club.

It was Rose’s first return to Stoke Gifford Stadium since her winter move, and the England Under-23 defender believes Arsenal did not show her former side due respect.

“We came here expecting to get three points and maybe that’s one of the reasons we didn’t do it,” Rose said. “We might have under-estimated the opposition.

“We know we should be beating Bristol but we weren’t good enough tonight. We gave the ball away too much and we weren’t ruthless enough in front of goal.

“It felt really strange coming back,” added the defender. “The club was a big part of my life for four years and I really hope they stay up.”
