Wenger - We've made up ground this year

Arsene Wenger is not planning drastic changes to his squad this summer because he is convinced they have made real progress this season.

Arsenal are well-placed to finish second in the Premier League for the first time in a decade and have reached their second successive FA Cup final.

The Gunners' run of 17 wins from their past 20 matches has underlined their potential, and Wenger is confident they can go even further next year.

"We feel we have made up some ground, and that will be the challenge of next season from the start"

“We have improved a lot this season,” the manager said. “Our defensive record since January is outstanding.

“I think we will be judged at the end of the season [on] May 30 after the FA Cup final [and on] where are we in the Premier League. We’ll see how well we have done. That’s why it is vital to keep the focus and hunger to go as strong as we can until the end.

“What will be interesting [next season is], let’s get a new start and see where we stand. We feel we have made up some ground, and that will be the challenge of next season from the start. Let’s show we are there and capable of fighting for [the title].

“We are not in need of absolute change [this summer]. We have a strong squad and we have some strong young players behind.

“We are not close to signing anybody, we have a very big squad, so we need to lose some players as well. We have a big squad now, we have Podolski away, Campbell, Sanogo will come back.”
