Losa - We won the football battle

Pedro Martinez Losa

Pedro Martinez Losa believes Arsenal Ladies deserved to beat Chelsea in their goalless draw at Wheatsheaf Park.

The Gunners dominated possession and defended well to pick up a valuable point away from home and become the first team to avoid defeat against the league leaders this season.

The London rivals' previous meeting had seen Chelsea end the Gunners’ FA Women’s Cup defence, and Losa is pleased with how much his side have improved since then.

"We’ve been working on getting it back quickly and putting them under pressure to make them feel uncomfortable when they have the ball"

“We knew that we had to work hard so we prepared and learnt from the defeat,” the manager said. “We made the players believe in what they can do. We can still make them believe more but I really think we won the football and mental battle.

“We had a clear plan of how to cover the wide areas and be aggressive, but when we had the ball we also wanted to combine in the offensive areas and that’s what we did.

“We want to play the Arsenal style but in order to do that you have to have the ball, so we’ve been working on getting it back quickly and putting them under pressure to make them feel uncomfortable when they have the ball.

“We probably lacked a bit of quality and confidence in the final third. We probably had three or four chances that should have been a goal whereas they probably only had one. We deserved the win more than they did.”
