Giroud - It was a big fight and big win

Olivier Giroud

Olivier Giroud hailed Arsenal’s battling spirit after Saturday’s 1-0 win at Burnley.

Aaron Ramsey’s 11th-minute strike was enough to secure all three points in Lancashire, but the Gunners had to remain focused against Burnley’s high-pressing and combative game.

The Clarets had already beaten Manchester City and drawn against Tottenham at Turf Moor, and Giroud is pleased with how Arsenal reacted to their physical test.

"If we were told that we were going to win this game 1-0 I would’ve taken that straight away. It’s never easy to win here"

“It was a tough game for us and we were a bit lucky,” the striker admitted. “We did well to score early in the game because it was really hard for us. Burnley play with a lot of determination and it was a big fight, but we succeeded and it was a big win for us.

“Sometimes you can’t play your best football every game and we tried to focus on not conceding a goal. It’s one more clean sheet so as long as we were winning the game, I don’t think we were too much in danger.

“If we were told that we were going to win this game 1-0 I would’ve taken that straight away. It’s never easy to win here. We kept our calm today, especially in the first half because they played really tough and it was a big fight.”

Saturday’s win marked Arsenal’s eighth consecutive win - their best run since the Invincibles season - and Giroud is delighted with his team’s progress in the second half of this campaign.

“It’s really good for us and I’m really proud to take part in these performances,” he said. “We don’t want to stop here, though, we want to carry on and keep this good run and momentum going.”
