Wenger - We were united and convincing

Arsene Wenger says a united and high-quality performance laid the foundations for Sunday’s 3-0 victory over Stoke City.

Laurent Koscielny’s early header, plus an Alexis Sanchez brace, set up Arsenal’s sixth consecutive win at Emirates Stadium.

The manager was pleased with the display, and feels his team learned a lesson from the defeat at Britannia Stadium in December.

"It was a very convincing performance going forward, defending and the quality of our game was high"

“It shows you that things can change very quickly in the game and I believe we learned a lesson from the first game,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “Over there, after 30 seconds we were 1-0 down but here, very early in the game, we were 1-0 up.

“It was a very convincing performance going forward, defending and the quality of our game was high. That’s all very positive.

“We moved the ball well, too quickly to be caught in challenges, and our movement off the ball was strong. Our united performance was very good.”

Koscielny’s opener was the eighth headed goal Arsenal have scored this season, a statistic Wenger says has surprised him.

“Yes [it goes under the radar],” he said. “I’m the manager - even I can’t believe it because the basis of our game is to pass on the ground, but we are dangerous in the air.”
