Arsene Wenger says Yaya Sanogo could leave on loan to gain valuable first-team experience.

The France Under-21 striker scored his first Arsenal goal against Borussia Dortmund in November but has been sidelined for much of December.

With Olivier Giroud suspended and Danny Welbeck an injury doubt, Sanogo was in line to play at Southampton, but he is not available.

"I would prefer him to go to a Premier League club. He is a goalscorer and he’s not frightened"

“He would have been the right option [to play at Southampton] but he’s got a minor hamstring injury,” the manager explained.

“[Before that his gum was] infected and he was under antibiotics for a long time. We [dealt with] it when we thought we had a little break between Liverpool and QPR.

“[A loan move] is a possibility. I would prefer him to go to a Premier League club. He is a goalscorer and he’s not frightened.

“He’s a guy who is naturally aggressive and in the modern game that’s a vital quality, it’s always been a vital quality.”

14/15: Arsenal 2-0 Borussia Dortmund - Yaya Sanogo
