Welbeck on derby and injury disruption

Danny Welbeck spoke to Arsenal Player after the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. This is what he had to say:

on his first north London derby…
It could have been better. We really controlled the game, we had a lot more chances and they got one shot in the second half and it went in so we’re a bit disappointed with that. It’s disappointing to draw the game.

on the Tottenham goal…
We tried to play out from the back and got caught in possession. Credit to them, they counter-attacked from there but it’s difficult to take because we were in control of the game. It could have gone better.

"We set out as a team knowing what we wanted to do and with the injuries coming into play, it changed everything for us and made it difficult"

on the injuries…
It is difficult because we set out as a team knowing what we wanted to do and with the injuries coming into play, it changed everything for us and made it difficult. We would have preferred to make those substitutions later on in the game.

on his own performance…
In the first half I was more of a threat, in the second I didn’t really feel like I did as much as I should have. I am a bit disappointed with that and I will work on the training pitch with the rest of the players and hopefully be involved much more throughout our games.

on how the north London derby compares…
I have played in quite a few [Manchester] derbies and I played for Sunderland against Newcastle as well, so it is nothing new to me. I know what it means to the fans and the whole club. I really wanted to get the three points so I’m a bit unhappy.

on his first month at the club…
It’s been very welcoming from the fans, the whole club and everyone involved with Arsenal and it is a great honour for me to be here. I am just looking forward to improving here and to making sure I give the best I can for Arsenal.
