Loan Watch: Afobe scores and assists

Every season a number of Arsenal players go out on loan to gain valuable first-team experience. With the 2014/15 campaign now underway, seven Gunners are currently away from the club.

Benik Afobe scored and assisted in his 20-minute cameo against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday. Bamidele Alli struck in the third minute before Crewe levelled through a Kyle McFadzean own goal. Will Grigg restored the lead before Alli scored again. Afobe then joined in before Alli secured his hat-trick. The rout was completed when Afobe set up Ben Reeves in the final minute.

Carl Jenkinson replaced Guy Demel for the final 29 minutes of West Ham’s 3-1 win against Liverpool. Winston Reid opened the scoring in the second minute before Diafra Sakho doubled the Hammers’ lead five minutes later. Raheem Sterling did pull one back but Morgan Amalfitano put the game out of reach with two minutes to go.

Jon Toral played the final 15 minutes of Brentford’s 4-0 defeat at Middlesbrough. Grant Leadbitter scored the only goal of the first half and Albert Adomah, Patrick Bamford and Kike struck after the break to give the hosts three points.

Wellington was an unused substitute in Almeria’s 2-1 win at Sociedad. The visitors took the lead through a De La Bella own goal before Mauro Dos Santos doubled after half-time. Gonzalo Castro pulled one back but it wasn’t enough as Almeria took all three points.

Austin Lipman played 74 minutes of Boreham Wood’s 2-1 defeat at Basingstoke. Ricky Shakes gave Boreham Wood the lead after 18 minutes and Chris Flood netted a second-half double to salvage the win.

Heracles 1-4 FC Twente
Ryo Miyaichi played 68 minutes of Twente’s away win against Heracles before being replaced by Youness Mokhtar. Wout Weghorst opened the scoring for Heracles before Luc Castaignos equalised. Twente then struck twice in a minute before half-time through Castaignos and Hakim Ziyech before Mokhtar concluded the scoring with 15 minutes to go.

Kris Olsson was an unused substitute in Midtjylland’s 2-1 loss at Nordsjaelland. Uffe Bech and Kasper Lorentzen gave the hosts a second-half lead before Rilwan Hassan scored a consolation for the league leaders.
