Extra: Boss on England and Gnabry

Arsene Wenger faced the media ahead of the Crystal Palace game. Here are some extra quotes from his press conference. For more headlines, visit our Digest page.

on England's performances at major tournaments…
People said that Roy Hodgson has only 40 players to chose from for the national team, but even if you play with 400 players in the Premier League, you will only have 40 players to chose from and that will not change. From 1966 to 1996, there were no foreign players in England and it has not changed anything in the results of the national team.

I believe there are two ways to look at that problem of foreign players. I believe it's an opportunity for the English players to improve in contact with the best players in the world and that's a great opportunity. Don't worry for the English national team because I think they are in a good way and they were not far from top quality in Brazil. I believe that they are on a good way because there is a good bunch of young players and hopefully in 2016, in France, in my country they will do very well.

on Gnabry going on loan…
No. He's still injured at the moment and we have to follow his progress. He needs competition and if nobody goes in the current squad [a loan] could happen. At the moment he's not fit and recovering from a knee inflammation. Even if he was fit, he would play for us.
