Alexis Sanchez has thanked the Arsenal fans for the rapturous reception he received during the Emirates Cup.

The Chile international played a cameo role in the 5-1 win over Benfica before making his first start against AS Monaco on Sunday.

The 25-year-old says he needs time to adapt to English football but was pleased to get some minutes under his belt over the weekend.

I am extremely happy and I hope I can make them very happy as well

"I have to go step by step, I have only trained twice with the team," he said. "Today I played 70 minutes, I believe I needed it, and I just have to keep on working hard and training.

"I like this style of football. What it is important for me now is to try to play games, to score as many goals and possible and to win titles. What it is important now is to play and get fit. I need to get 100 per cent.

"Of course I loved it [the reception from the fans], I am extremely thankful to all of them. I am extremely happy and I hope I can make them very happy as well."
