Joel Campbell played 66 minutes as Costa Rica were knocked out of the World Cup on penalties by the Netherlands in their quarter final.
The Arsenal forward was a lively presence during the first half, with one fine reverse pass creating a half chance for the central Americans.
However, in a closely-contested match of few clear-cut chances Campbell could not find a way to punish a Netherlands side who spent much of their time on the front foot.
Just after the hour mark, the 22-year-old was replaced by Marco Urena.
After a tense finish, and thrilling extra-time period, the game went to penalties, with substitute Tim Krul saving two as the Netherlands progressed to the semi finals where they will face Argentina.Copyright 2014 The Arsenal Football Club plc.
