'We’re thrilled we gave fans a good day’

Sir Chips Keswick says he is “thrilled” for the club’s supporters around the world after Saturday’s FA Cup final victory against Hull City.

The Arsenal chairman was nervous when the Gunners slipped to an early two-goal deficit, but left Wembley a happy man after their incredible comeback win.

Sir Chips paid tribute to the players for the character they showed, and said it was a huge moment for everyone connected with the club.

"We have had so many messages from faraway places - China, New Zealand, Indonesia. You would be astonished at the number of people that we have got on record as supporting Arsenal"

“This current bunch of players are as loyal and determined for the Arsenal as any that I have seen in the last 50 years,” he said. “Thank you for that to all of them.

“It was great to get [the trophy] and I am thrilled for the fans - not only those in London but worldwide.

“We have had so many messages from faraway places - China, New Zealand, Indonesia. You would be astonished at the number of people that we have got on record as supporting Arsenal. We’re so pleased we gave them a good day.”

Sir Chips also heaped praise on Arsene Wenger for his achievement in winning the fifth FA Cup of his reign.

“Anybody who does a job like that, for as long as he has, deserves every success that comes his way,” he said. “He did it and I have never seen a man more delighted.

“I hope he will continue and there will be successes to come in the very near future. We’ve added one trophy, and we want more.”
