Hamburg are still in grave danger of being relegated to 2. Bundesliga following this defeat in Bavaria. Halil Altintop's brace and Andre Hahn's strike gave Augsburg a three-goal lead before the break, though Heiko Westermann did net a consolation goal on the stroke of half-time.
