2014 SEMS Medical Conference

Arsenal Football Club held its annual Sports and Exercise Medicine Conference at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday

Now in its fourth year, the event was hosted by the Club's head of medical services, Colin Lewin, and medical director Gary O'Driscoll.

The day offered attendees the opportunity to share best practices across the medical and scientific healthcare industry, with a focus on practitioners working within elite sports.

Discussions focused on the diagnosis and management of tendon injuries, infectious diseases and concussion in contact sports.

The conference featured a number of high-profile speakers. Performance director and general manager of Team Sky British Cycling, Sir Dave Brailsford, addressed the 250 delegates in attendance, along with Professor Jill Cook, of Deakin University Australia and Professor Nicola Maffulli, an expert in sports and exercise medicine and a consultant orthopaedic surgeon.

Lewin said: “Our medical team is constantly looking to develop and improve, to ensure we’re providing the best possible treatment to our players.

"This conference pools together a tremendous amount of experience from right across the industry, and allows us to share best practices and experiences. It’s proved a really useful tool over the last four years for us as a medical team, and for the delegates that attend too.”
