Much was expected of Ryo after his hugely-successful loan spell with Feyenoord last season, and the Japanese youngster certainly delivered in the Premier League.

Although it may not have been with Arsenal, the 19-year-old's positive loan spell with Bolton Wanderers will have no doubt readied him for the realities of life in English football.

Ryo began the season in the reserves and scored on his first taste of action, against Wigan's second string in August. He made another seven appearances, including encouraging first-team outings in the Carling Cup clashes against Shrewsbury and Bolton.

By this point, Bolton had seen enough and he made a January move to Owen Coyle's side. The Japanese youngster quickly endeared himself to the Reebok Stadium faithful with a string of committed displays on the wing and made a first-team place his own.

A loan move to Lancashire worked wonders for Jack Wilshere and it proved beneficial for Ryo too. And, after breaking into the Japan national team in May, a place in Arsène Wenger's first-team squad could soon be on the horizon.

“I think I've made big strides. Once you come to a big club, you can't walk into the team - I have to work hard every day so that I can play well in the future. Even so during training, being able to practise alongside superstars can only be a good thing. It’s important to try to get noticed. All I can do is believe in myself and work hard. Otherwise it's up to the boss so I'll just do what I can.”
